Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is a unique way to experience movement therapy with a physiotherapist who is able to combine Pilates principles with knowledge of anatomy, injury rehabilitation and prevention.

Anita Lambert, Registered Physiotherapist, Clinical Pilates Instructor has been incorporating Pilates rehab (mat, reformer, cadillac) into her physiotherapy sessions over the past 15 years.

The added bonus of working with a physiotherapist for clinical

Pilates is that traditional physiotherapy techniques including

myofascial release, manual therapy, acupuncture/dry needing

and pelvic floor physiotherapy can also be included in each session.

Common conditions treated with clinical pilates/physiotherapy

include:

  • Sports injuries/return to sport

  • Dance injuries/return to dance

  • Incontinence

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse

  • Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation)

  • Pelvic Girdle Pain

  • Pubic Symphysis Pain

  • Low Back Pain, Sciatica

  • Musculoskeletal Injuries (neck, shoulders, knees, ankles, etc)

  • Helping to provide a comfortable pregnancy

  • Preparing your body for birth

  • Helping with an efficient postpartum recovery.

Assessment (70 minutes):

A comprehensive virtual physiotherapy assessment is required prior to clinical Pilates sessions. This will include a discussion of your medical/injury/birth history – as well as health goals and if pregnant – preferences for your upcoming birth.

Anita or Laine will observe your posture plus various movements and tests looking at joint mobility, muscle tension, core strength. If an internal pelvic floor exam would be beneficial to address your physiotherapy symptoms and goals, this will be discussed with you and with your consent, can be done at your first in-pesron follow up appointment.

A carefully designed Pilates program will be put together for you which may focus on core strengthening, muscle tension release, postural work and joint mobility. Your program always focuses on your health goals which may include a comfortable pregnancy, preparing for birth or an efficient postpartum recovery.

Clinical Pilates Sessions (45 min or 60 min):

At Holistic Health Physiotherapy, you will be working with Anita (matwork & reformer) one-on-one which may include Pilates mat work, reformer work, small props including physio ball, rotation discs, foam roller, Pilates ring and weights. A home program will be created to mimic parts of your in clinic session to continue your progress.

** Sessions may also include hands on therapy including pelvic health, manual therapy, myofascial release, acupuncture/dry needling.

Length of sessions will be discussed at your assessment and will depend on your goals.
